Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if they might affect your ABS/EPS functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are great for giving you a little extra traction in the snow. But if you live somewhere where you experience heavy snow often, you'll definitely want something more heavy duty than cables. Because these cable chains are lightweight and don't take up a lot of storage space, they are also perfect for keeping in your truck if you occasionally travel through areas that require you to have chains on hand.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Cable Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground.

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chain over tire.

2. Drape the chain over the tire or lay the chain out and drive onto it.

Connect cable behind tire.

3. Reach around to the back of the tire and fasten the rear side cable by running the end with the metal stops through the eye of the hook on the opposite end.

Secure excess cable.

4. Run any excess side cable through the metal clip.

Repeat around front.

5. Repeat this process on the front side of the tire.

Install rubber adjusters

6. Drive forward 1 car length, then check the chain and hand tighten it again if needed.

Rubber adjusters (sold separately) are recommended to help ensure a tight fit. Connect these to the front side of the cable in a star pattern. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

2015 Dodge Durango

Just received my chains yesterday. I have to say, first of, customer service is EXCELLENT! I had questions on which chains were best for my SUV and I was promptly responded with suggestions and links to videos. I went with these tire cables for my 2015 Dodge Durango SXT Plus. There was question about clearance issues with brake lines on the Durango and these seem to be very low profile and made for lower clearance. The price was right too. I did a dry install today and it was a breeze. Took way longer to fold these back up and put back into the storage bag! Lol! (That's not these chains fault, it's user error...) I took some pictures but note it was my first time installing tire cables so I'm going to have to center them a bit more. I purchased the Titan chain multi arm rubber chain adjusters and they did make a difference on how snug the cables fit, so I would recommend them. We only plan on using them on very rare occasions when we venture up the mountain, so in sure if you live where it snows all the time, you will probably look at higher prices chains, but I think these are perfect for the occasional use. I will update after our Big Bear trip if we use them to reflect actual use. Thank you etrailer, they also upgraded my shipping to get here a couple days earlier just because... that was amazing!

by:

Haven’t used them yet and hope I don’t have to but they are good to have in the tru.

Easy to order, better than promised delivery, well packaged and excellent quality product. Purchased for a mountain drive next weekend, so haven’t installed yet, but will do in a few days.

Toyota Tacoma

Bought the Glacier v-bar chains for the rear tires in extreme conditions and the Titan cable chains for lighter duty, also to be installed on the rear tires. Videos show that the cable-chains can be installed on the front tires of a 2020 or greater Toyota Tacoma, though not recommended by the owner’s manual. These cables are S-class compatible so they should work on the front tires, however caution should be taken as appropriate. I would recommend only installing on the front tires after the v-bar chains have been installed on the rear tires and extra traction is deemed worthy.

Both the Glacier and Titan multi-arm adjusters were ordered in support of the chains.

Parts arrived as ordered in a timely fashion.

Have not installed or used these products at the time of review.

2002 Toyota Tacoma

I purchased a set of Titan cable snow chains for my 2002 Toyota Tacoma. I rarely use chains but when I have to it's usually just for getting to work and around town so I prefer thin cable chains over regular link chains. These are perfect! Easy to get on and off and I love the tension clamp. It's definitely a step up from my old cable chains. The price was excellent as well. The cheapest I found anywhere. I definitely recommend them. Thanks ETrailer!

by:

The chains actually arrived a day earlier than projected.

The cable chains (2028) look great and very durable. I put them on my 2014
Toureg with 20 Inch wheels with some effort and they fit perfectly. I am
ready to try them out next winter if needed.

The only disappointment is that they arrived in a very nice carrying bag.
But after taking them out and trying them on for fit, it was impossible to
get them back into the original bag that they arrived in. I ended up using
a bit larger tool bag to store them.

2014 Dodge Ram Pickup

Very satisfied. I ordered these on a Sunday and received them 5 days later on Friday, which was just in time for my snow trip on Saturday. Very easy to use and installation is fast. I used them on my 2014 Ram 1500 SLT, 2WD, tire size is P265/70R17 M+S (which stands for Mud and Snow Tires) My truck requires the class "S" chains, which these are clearly labeled as such.

I have not had deep enough snow to put chains on my 4WD just yet but the chains fit well. I also thank etrailer for all of the very helpful videos and product support to make an informed decision. Super helpful!

by:
Ford

These are the style chains Ford recommends. But they are a tight fit (which you want but like all tight fitting chains they're a bear to put on with cold wet hands) I find my truck works better with the chains installed on both the front and rear.

by:

This set of snow cables worked like a charm. Purchased them for upcoming trip to Big Bear Lake. And we got lucky, it snowed the night we arrived. Had no problem with traction driving around.

by:

I love my cable chains from Etrailer! Iiked my 1st set so much that I bought a second set as well. I love the ease of putting cable chains on as opposed to putting on regular heavy duty chains. They're made of great quality and you won't be disappointed. Also... They were a great price and free shipping as well. Hard to beat these days.

Etrailer was great. The item shipped the same day I placed the order. The items I received were as described, and fit well. These fit my 2013 Ford F150 FX2. Haven't had to use them yet, but with an icy forcast, and pregnant wife, I figured I better have them on hand.

Yes, the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains, # PW2028C, are listed as a fit for the P275/55R20 tires on your 2013 Ford F-150. I also recommend picking up a set of the Glacier Rubber Adjusters, part # PW99, because the Glacier cable chains do not include any type of tensioner or adjuster. If you are interested in the cable style chain, I would recommend taking a look at the Titan Cable Tire Chains, # TC2028, as well. For adjusters, you can use part # TCMA2. Snow tire chains fit tires by physical dimension and disregard the load rating of the tire. Vehicles with chains must only drive to the maximum speed limit as recommended by the auto and chain manufacturers, which is usually around 35mph. Even at that slow speed it will be a rough ride. The only way to get a less rough ride is to use thinner chains/cables, but then you have less traction. Your tires are about 3/8 to 1/2 inch wider than the 235s the manual mentions so clearance could be an issue. But here's the thing; this issue is what I call the Tire Chain Paradox or Reno's Law. I contacted Titan Chains and for your 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 with 275/50-22 they recommend the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - Steel Rollers - 1 Pair Item # TC2028. With these style chains it is going to require Titan Chain Multi-Arm Rubber Tire Chain Adjuster for Light Trucks - 1 Pair Item # TCMA2. The rubber tensioners provide tension on the cable around the face of the wheel so the chain stays snug and centered.

  • Tire Chains for 2010 Ford F-150 with Tire Size 275/65R18
I would suggest a set of tire chains for your tire size 275/65R18 that are Class S compatible (meaning require less clearance) like the Titan set part # TC2327 which fit your size. I attached an install video for these on a similar 2015 Ford F-150 for you to check out as well. These are pretty easy to install as well and provide great traction.
